Tulsi in India
Tulsi, also known as ocimum tenuiflorum or holy basil, is a herbaceous plant in the Lamiaceae family. Native to India, it is considered a sacred herb and is often grown around Indian temples and homes for its healing and spiritual properties.
Ayurvedic medicine has used it for thousands of years in various forms for its numerous health benefits.
The benefits of Tulsi in Ayurvedic medicine
In Ayurveda, Tulsi is considered a rasayana plant, i.e. one that helps rejuvenate and revitalize the body and mind.
It is often used to boost immunity (thanks to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties), soothe stress and prevent respiratory infections. In particular, it is reputed to have a beneficial effect on various respiratory problems such as coughs and colds.
